LANITIS FARM-GOLF AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT_Limassol,J+A Philippou Architects. engineers 2007

Golf Club House and Maintenance Building_J+A Philippou Architects. engineers(design) Edaw Aecom (masterplan) /Cabell Robinson (golf architect)

In order to increase the tourism in Cyprus, tha Cyprus Government published a legislation, where 14 Golf Courses and Resorts are to be developed in all South Cyprus. Lanitis Family was one of the land holders able to built 3 of these Resorts. One of them already been built, the family decided to develop another 2.

Lanitis Farm is located on the outskirts of Limassol and used to be an orange feild. Due to it’s adjacency to the city of Limassol, the development would not have the character of a resort, but it would be more as a suburb, consisting of Town Houses mixed with the Golf Course, and it would refer to Young Limassolian couples or families.

The Masterplan of the Lanitis Farm was designed by the USA based Office of Edaw/Aecom in association with the Golf Architect Cabell Robinson, while the design issues of the project would be held by J+A Philippou Architects.Engineers (Club House, Town Houses, Maintenance Building). Due to the fact that this development would refer tou young families, the architecture was mainly headed to cotemporary and clear volume architecture.

According to the Masterplanner’s guidance, certain restrictions were to take in concideration during the design of the Club House, such as the square meters of built area-due to the rules of the Limassol Masterplan-, and the facilities of a Club House. The views and entrance points for the building were also important for the design. The main facades of the building are covered with woodden cladding. The seperate uses of the Club House are defined by different Heights and Volumes, creating usable open spaces between them.

The design of the Maintenance Building was based on the traditional Cyprus Courtyard Houses. This would enable not only a huge space for the stuff to work in, but also privacy from the sourroundings. This would mean that all the work done would not be seen and the building would seem as a building like the rest in the area.
